This project is to de-commission 3x 132/11kV power transformers at their current position, 2 of the transformers (TC 1&2) will be re sited on to 2 semi-permanent bunds and re-connected for cable containment works for the 11kV cables. The 11kV switchgear and cables will be tested and commissioned before energised.

This project is about utilities diversion of the existing OHL. These works require a two-phase diversion. In order to allow for the construction of the new Diddington Lane overbridge the existing OHL will be diverted utilising UGC. After the bridge construction the new cables will be installed inside the bridge structure and approaches to create a permanent solution. The majority of cable installed during the temporary diversion will be retained in the final solution.
The existing 11kv cable is part of the Elmdon circuit (670059/0003) and routes from the A452 Chester Road to the Pole Mounted Transformer (PMT) “72/2805 (04422) EB35A M42 Lighting Comms Chester Rd” adjacent to the M42 motorway. The existing route crosses the HS2 at the Pool Wood Embankment.

Pool Wood Embankment is approximately 1500m long and sits between Coleshill Heath Road Underbridge to the north and the M42 Motorway Box Structure to the south. Due to the length of the embankment and the position of the existing cable, there is no route around the embankment meaning an Under Track Crossing (UTX) is required. The 11kv UTX must be installed at such a depth that the cable is beneath any future permanent works. Along the
length of Pool Wood Embankment, there is a requirement for ground improvement prior to constructing any of the
embankment. In the area of the existing 11kv, the ground improvement detailed in a previous model was 4m dig out
and replace. In the latest consolidation model, we have 1m dig and replace, with a potential for this to increase to
2m dig and replace. This means based on this design the cable must be installed at least 5m depth to give 3 – 4m
cover to the formation level of the ground improvement. Further optimisation on this depth of ground improvement
will be carried out during detailed design.

scheme design consolidation model. At the IDC stage, a large balancing pond was included to the east of the Pool

consolidation model has taken this utility into account and the ponds have been modified.
